La Federazione Italiana Sport Invernali (FISI, colloquialmente nota come Federsci) è l’organo di organizzazione, promozione e coordinamento della pratica degli sport invernali inItalia. Fondata nel 1908 con il nome di Unione Ski Clubs Italiani, ha sede a Milano ed è affiliata al CONI.
Storia
La federazione venne costituita a Torino nel 1908 sotto forma di unione di sci club italiani su iniziativa di Paolo Kind, figlio di Adolfo, pioniere della pratica sciistica in Italia e fondatore (il 21 dicembre 1901) dello Ski Club Torino. La federazione, che contava inizialmente sull’adesione di tre club, assunse il nome di Unione Ski Clubs Italiani (USCI) e la presidenza fu affidata allo stesso Paolo Kind.
Il 23 ottobre 1913 l’USCI venne riorganizzata e ribattezzata Federazione Italiana dello Ski, con sede a Milano, sotto la presidenza di Gustavo Engelman. Il successo di questa iniziativa rimase contenuto, sicché il 10 ottobre 1920 l’organismo venne nuovamente rifondato, sempre a Milano, da Aldo Bonacossa (che ne divenne presidente), assumendo il nome di Federazione Italiana dello Sci (FIS). La FIS assunse la denominazione definitiva di Federazione Italiana Sport Invernali (FISI) nel 1933, quando le furono avocate le competenze su bob, pattinaggio e hockey, che si aggiunsero alle varie discipline sciistiche già di sua competenza. La permanenza di hockey e pattinaggio sotto l’egida FISI fu però di breve durata, giacché nel 1946 le due discipline costituirono proprie distinte federazioni, in seguito riunite nella definitiva Federazione Italiana Sport del Ghiaccio (FISG), indipendente dalla FISI.

Di tutte gestisce l’attività agonistica, curandone l’organizzazione, la regolamentazione e la sicurezza. I primi Campionati italiani di sci di fondo e di salto furono organizzati nel 1909, cui seguirono quelli di bob nel 1930, di sci alpino nel 1931 e di slittino nel 1966.

The Italian Winter Sports Federation (FISI, colloquially known as Federsci) is the organ of organization, promotion and coordination of the practice of winter sports in Italy. Founded in 1908 with the name of Unione Ski Clubs Italiani, it is based in Milan and is affiliated with CONI.
History
The federation was established in Turin in 1908 as a union of Italian ski clubs on the initiative of Paolo Kind, son of Adolfo, pioneer of skiing in Italy and founder (on 21 December 1901) of the Ski Club Torino. The federation, which initially counted on the membership of three clubs, took the name of Unione Ski Clubs Italiani (USCI) and the presidency was entrusted to Paolo Kind himself.
On 23 October 1913 the USCI was reorganized and renamed the Italian Ski Federation, based in Milan, under the presidency of Gustavo Engelman. The success of this initiative remained limited, so that on 10 October 1920 the organization was refounded again, again in Milan, by Aldo Bonacossa (who became its president), taking the name of the Italian Ski Federation (FIS). The FIS assumed the definitive name of the Italian Winter Sports Federation (FISI) in 1933, when the skills on bobsleigh, skating and hockey were taken over, which were added to the various ski disciplines already under its competence. The permanence of hockey and skating under the FISI aegis was short-lived, however, since in 1946 the two disciplines formed their own separate federations, later reunited in the definitive Italian Ice Sports Federation (FISG), independent from the FISI.

It manages the competitive activity of all, taking care of its organization, regulation and safety. The first Italian cross-country and jumping championships were organized in 1909, followed by those of bobsleigh in 1930, alpine skiing in 1931 and sledding in 1966.
