Il Ministero dello Sviluppo con le Poste Italiane emette il 3 agosto 2020 un francobollo ordinario appartenente alla serie tematica” il Senso civico” dedicato al nuovo ponte di Genova – “Genova San Giorgio”, viadotto sul torrente Polcevera, relativo al valore della tariffa B, corrispondente ad € 1.10.

Oggi 03 agosto 2020, alle 18.30, sarà inaugurato sul fiume Polcevera, a Genova, il nuovo viadotto autostradale che ha sostituito il Ponte Morandi crollato parzialmente il 14 agosto del 2018 causando la morte di 43 persone. Il nuovo ponte, progettato dall’architetto e senatore a vita Renzo Piano, si chiamerà “Genova San Giorgio” e sarà aperto al traffico dal 5 agosto.

Il ponte Morandi era una delle principali vie del traffico di Genova: era stato costruito negli anni Sessanta e si trovava tra i quartieri di Sampierdarena e Cornigliano, a ovest del centro. Nel tempo era stato oggetto di svariati lavori di manutenzione e polemiche sulla sua stabilità. Il 14 agosto di due anni fa, poco prima di mezzogiorno, uno dei tre piloni che sostenevano il ponte era crollato, trascinando con sé un tratto di strada lungo circa 200 metri.

A metà novembre il “Decreto Genova” era stato convertito in legge e il sindaco di Genova Marco Bucci era stato nominato commissario per la ricostruzione, scegliendo per i lavori Salini Impregilo e Fincantieri, e il progetto proposto da Renzo Piano.

Nel febbraio del 2019 era cominciata la demolizione dei resti del ponte, portata a termine per passaggi successivi, “smontando” e demolendo le vari parti che formavano la struttura. Il primo ottobre era stato posato il primo tratto del nuovo viadotto sopra due piloni posizionati nelle settimane precedenti e a fine aprile 2020 era stata completata la struttura d’acciaio. Lo scorso 8 luglio era stato infine posato il primo strato di asfalto e dieci giorni dopo erano iniziate le prove di collaudo. Il viadotto è stato costruito in tempi considerati record, almeno per l’Italia.

Il nuovo ponte è lungo 1.067 metri, ha 19 campate che si trovano a 40 metri di altezza e sono sorrette da 18 piloni. È costato 202 milioni di euro, sono stati utilizzati 67 mila metri cubi di calcestruzzo e 24 mila tonnellate di acciaio e carpenteria metallica. Sui lati nord e sud ci saranno due file di pannelli solari che soddisferanno il 95 per cento del fabbisogno energetico del ponte. Per delimitare la carreggiata sono stati installati 2.450 metri di pannelli trasparenti, alti due metri e mezzo, con la funzione di frangivento. Sui due lati della carreggiata sono state distribuite 18 antenne luminose alte 28 metri che, esteticamente, rappresentano gli alberi del vascello a cui assomiglia il viadotto, come ha spiegato Piano. A queste luci si aggiungono oltre mille plafoniere montate sui lati esterni dell’impalcato. Quattro robot appesi all’esterno del ponte serviranno a pulire e a monitorare la struttura.

Oggi, a inaugurare il nuovo ponte ci sarà il presidente della Repubblica Sergio Mattarella che prima incontrerà in prefettura i familiari delle 43 persone che sono morte nel crollo. La cerimonia vera e propria sarà trasmessa in diretta tv. Parleranno Marco Bucci, poi il presidente della regione Liguria Giovanni Toti, l’architetto Renzo Piano e il presidente del Consiglio Giuseppe Conte. Egle Possetti, portavoce del Comitato dei parenti delle vittime, ha fatto sapere che per loro «non c’è niente da festeggiare».

Today 03 August 2020, at 6.30 pm, the new highway viaduct that replaced the Morandi bridge partially collapsed on 14 August 2018 will be inaugurated on the Polcevera river in Genoa, causing the death of 43 people. The new bridge, designed by architect and life senator Renzo Piano, will be called “Genova San Giorgio” and will be open to traffic from August 5. The Morandi bridge was one of the main traffic routes in Genoa: it was built in the 1960s and was located between the districts of Sampierdarena and Cornigliano, west of the center. Over time it had undergone several maintenance works and controversies over its stability. On August 14, two years ago, just before noon, one of the three pillars that supported the bridge had collapsed, dragging along a stretch of road about 200 meters long. In mid-November the “Genoa Decree” had been converted into law and the mayor of Genoa Marco Bucci had been appointed commissioner for reconstruction, choosing Salini Impregilo and Fincantieri for the works, and the project proposed by Renzo Piano. In February 2019, the demolition of the remains of the bridge had begun, completed by successive steps, “dismantling” and demolishing the various parts that made up the structure. On October 1, the first section of the new viaduct had been laid over two pylons positioned in the previous weeks and at the end of April 2020 the steel structure had been completed. Last 8 July, the first layer of asphalt was finally laid and the testing began ten days later. The viaduct was built in times considered record, at least for Italy. The new bridge is 1,067 meters long, has 19 spans which are 40 meters high and supported by 18 pylons. It cost 202 million euros, 67 thousand cubic meters of concrete and 24 thousand tons of steel and metal carpentry were used. On the north and south sides there will be two rows of solar panels that will satisfy 95 percent of the bridge’s energy needs. To delimit the roadway, 2,450 meters of transparent panels were installed, two and a half meters high, with the function of windbreaks. On both sides of the roadway 18 light antennae were distributed 28 meters high which, aesthetically, represent the masts of the vessel to which the viaduct resembles, as Piano explained. These lights are joined by over a thousand ceiling lights mounted on the external sides of the deck. Four robots hanging outside the bridge will be used to clean and monitor the structure. Today, the new bridge will be inaugurated by the President of the Republic Sergio Mattarella who will first meet the relatives of the 43 people who died in the collapse in the prefecture. The actual ceremony will be broadcast live on TV. Marco Bucci, then the president of the Liguria region Giovanni Toti, the architect Renzo Piano and the president of the Council Giuseppe Conte will speak. Egle Possetti, spokesman for the Committee of relatives of the victims, said that for them “there is nothing to celebrate”.
